Unless stated otherwise, the texts, photos and figures on this site are © Nada Salman; please ask before reusing them. Published papers remain under their publishers' copyright, and source code is under the licence of its repository.
Privacy
Who is responsible. Nada Salman is responsible for the personal data handled by this site. For any question, write to nada.s.salman@outlook.com.
No advertising, no tracking cookies. The site shows no ads, does not track you across other websites and sets no cookie that needs your consent.
What your browser keeps. If you switch language, a lang cookie remembers your choice for one year; it is only used to show pages in that language. Your browser's local storage also keeps a few display preferences (light or dark theme, interface sounds, whether the "also in French" hint was shown) and short-lived caches. Local storage never leaves your device.
Visit statistics. Visits are measured on this site's own server, without any outside analytics service, only to understand how the site is used. For each page it records the page, the time, the referring page, the browser, system and screen size, the browser language and time zone, how long the page stayed open, how far it was scrolled, and actions such as downloads, links followed or timeline items opened. To recognise returning visitors, your browser keeps a random number in its local storage for 13 months; only a scrambled version of it reaches the server. Your IP address is not stored. Nothing is shared with anyone. If your browser sends "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control", only an anonymous page count is recorded. You can clear this site's data in your browser at any time. Statistics are deleted after 13 months.
Contact form. When you send a message, your name, email address and message are stored on this site's server so I can read and answer it. They are not shared with anyone or used for anything else. To limit spam, a one-way hash of your IP address is kept briefly to count recent messages. Messages are deleted once they are no longer needed, or sooner if you ask.
Backups. So that nothing is lost, the site's content, including contact messages, is copied regularly: a few recent copies stay on this server, and copies may also be sent to my own mailbox or kept in a private GitHub repository that only I can access.
Other services your browser contacts. Some parts of the site load from other providers, which receive your IP address as with any web request:
- program libraries from cdn.jsdelivr.net and cdnjs.cloudflare.com (and www.gstatic.com for some 3D models);
- GitHub (api.github.com), for the latest-activity tile on the homepage and the Open source page;
- YouTube thumbnails (i.ytimg.com) on the Talks page; a video player (youtube-nocookie.com or Vimeo) loads only when you press play.
Links to other sites (LinkedIn, Google Scholar, publishers…) are only followed if you click them.
Server logs. Like any web server, the host's server may keep technical access logs (IP address, date, requested page) under the host's own policy.
Legal basis. My legitimate interest in running, securing and improving the site (statistics, anti-spam), and your own request when you write to me.
Your rights. Under the GDPR you can ask to see, correct or delete data about you, or object to its use, by writing to nada.s.salman@outlook.com. If you are not satisfied with the answer, you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL (www.cnil.fr).
